I couldn’t believe that I had made the decision to attempt what seemed like the impossible and run 26.2 miles straight. In order to achieve this accomplishment, I knew that I needed a plan to carry me through the training and all the way to the finish line. I wanted to make sure that I was not only completing the appropriate mileage with my training plan, but also staying on track with a strong pace. In order to meet this goal, I signed up for the Great Bay Half Marathon two months before my full marathon. When I finally reached half marathon race day, I was very motivated to beat my previous personal record for a half marathon. However, this would not come easy as this race boasted challenging hills among the scenic pathways.
When I picked up my race shirt I smirked at the slogan on the back stating “these legs conquered the hills of the Great Bay Half Marathon”. With each hill and every push I made, I needed to visualize the full marathon two months away. I felt so strong and so empowered. With this perseverance I was able to meet my goal of a new personal record!
